Do your best - the fourth agreement from Miguel Ruiz. How many times have we heard this from our parents? Just do your best. Millions, I'm sure. I know I say it to my son all of the time.
In order to do your best, you have to enjoy what you are doing. You can look at it as a chore, but what fun is that? When we see things as a chore or work, then we are telling our self to just get it done - quick. There is definitely a difference between quick and your best. I always tell my son that it is more important to do it well (his best) than to do it quick. Your best feels good.
Miguel teaches us that when we do our best we learn to accept our self. If we make mistakes, but we still did our best, then we can learn from those mistakes. Be aware of what happened in the mistake and next time do your best again. Everyone needs to practice and then we can be aware and keep learning. Everyone's best is different and your best will change because each person is unique and as we practice our best changes.
The great thing about doing your best, is that it makes you feel good and happy. When you know that you are doing your best, you find pleasure in what you are doing and you know that you are living as you. You can only be you when you do your best.
Sounds simple, huh? Our society is so fast paced that we just need to get it done. We are losing the pleasure in accomplishing things, creating things, growing things. By being present in them moment and taking pleasure in doing our best, we can enjoy life. It may slow us a little bit, but with practice, we can become more efficient and provide a better product (accomplishment, goal, dream, etc).
Doing my best. I know that I am doing my best as a mom, a student, a coach, a wife, a nurse, a friend, a daughter, a sister and much more. If ever there is a time when I am sad or angry, I am taking a moment to reflect on the situation and emotion. I ask myself if I did my best. If not, then I seek understanding so I learn and know the next time I will do my best. No one is perfect. Doing my best is my daily goal because I know that it will make me happy.
